AT A GLANCE
Food: 8am and 6pm (1 tub kibble), don't feed her food scraps, especially not chicken 💨
Wrinkles: Clean her wrinkles every 4-5 days, like this
Chew toys: She loves them, rotating them helps to keep them interesting for her
Words: toilet, cuddles, no, leave it, sit, wait, high five
Keep her cool: if over 20 degrees C (water, shade, late evening walks, cooling mat etc)
Calm her down: put her harness and lead on (even just the harness will help), say ‘no’ to her, ignore her, turn your back or ask her to sit
Other dogs: She can be a bit over the top when in play mode and sometimes when you pet another dog, be wary and keep her close to you or away from other dogs. She should be fine on walks, saying hi to other dogs etc as long as she’s on a lead.
Recall: Keep her on lead out and about
Walks: minimum 30 mins a day max 5 miles ish
Harness: she doesn't like putting it on, hold a treat in your hand and pop the harness over her head
She tries to eat everything: Keep an eye on her with tissues, chicken bones, plants, cardboard etc
DANG IT’S HOT 🌞
KEEPING MISSY COOL AT HOME
As Missy is getting older she is struggling more with the heat bless her.
Please keep Missy at home during the day in the summer - walks can only be really early (before 8am) or late at night as she overheats quite quickly these days. Keep an eye on her breathing, if she is panting take her home.
She has x2 cooling mats by her beds which she uses to keep cool. Nothing to do here, she just flops on them.
On a hot day (over 25 degrees) pop on the fan which is under the TV. Whack it up to a high speed. The remote is on the sideboard. You can leave this on if you go out.
On a really hot day (25 - 35 degrees) we have a paddling pool which we refill each day (as it get a bit gross), she potters in it sometimes which helps her cool down.
Using the hose - she goes MAD for the hose, its so fun she turns into a crazy gal. When you use it try to keep her from swallowing too much water by keeping it to about 5 mins per play. If you move it around a bit she enjoys trying to eat it. If you put down the hose (even if its still on, she calms down and takes a break) It is great for cooling her down tho and giving her a bit of fun in the heat.
You can add ice cubes to her water bowl
We use the green ice cube tray to make her ICE DOG TREATS she can have 1 per day - try and get her to eat it outside as can be messy, she normally takes it straight out. Feel free to make her some more if you run out, we add a few treats from the drawer, some frozen peas, blueberries or raspberries.
ON WALKS
Only take her if its under 20 degrees.
If you do take her on walks, do take water with you and keep the walks short and in the shade where possible. If she starts panting, bring her home.
Pottering to the local park in Thomas Gamuel is an easy one to test how she is.
